About J. K. Norris, Ph.D.

With his intuitive depth, insightful mind, and instinct for initiating transformation in others, Dr. Norris takes an embodied, participatory approach to integrative education and experiential learning. His research explores the science, psychology, and mysticism of rhythm, related to the interpersonal dynamics of entrainment (when independent systems synchronize and become bound together to form a greater whole).

Weaving ancient mystical traditions together with modern evidence-based research, he created his brand Lucid Drum to promote the empowerment, health, and wellness of individuals and communities through the exploration, expression, and overall experience of rhythm (i.e., embodied flow). His work articulates "flow" as an entry point to consciousness transformation and eco-social sustainability in everyday life.

As a life-long musician, Norris has been a multi-instrumentalist for a variety of musical projects and genres, performing in such popular San Francisco Bay Area venues as the Great American Music Hall and the de Young Museum. He has led "dream performance" troupes and co-organized theatrical productions that combine dream sharing, music, and performance art. An audio track from his 2013 album, A Journey of Sound and Rhythm: Volume One, is featured in the documentary film Death Makes Life Possible with Deepak Chopra and Dr. Marilyn Schlitz.

From 2007 to 2014, Norris was on staff at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS), a Northern California-based research and education center exploring theories of nonlocal consciousness and interconnectedness. He also served as the founding director of a year-long 501(c)(3) community development project known as the House of Living Rhythm (HoLR), where he converted a downtown renovated church from the 1880s into a mixed use (live-work) community learning center and transformative arts space.

As a workshop facilitator, musical performing artist, and conference presenter, he has been involved with The International Association for the Study of Dreams, The Dream Institute of Northern California, IONS, EarthRise Center, Chi Healing Center, Veriditas, Vista Family Health, Alameda-Contra Costa Medical Association, Bayside Marin, The Shift Network, Elder Care Alliance, Globe Sound Healing Institute, Miracle Girls, Raks Rosa, The Resonance Center, Vox Mundi, AXIS Dance Company, and more.

Norris has a Doctoral degree from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in East-West Psychology, specializing in "rhythm psychology" and "sonic mysticism." He holds a Master's degree in Consciousness Studies and a graduate certificate in Dream Studies from John F. Kennedy University. His Bachelor's degree is in Psychology from California State University San Bernardino. He is an authorized Remo HealthRHYTHMS group facilitator, is certified in the therapeutic use of Biosonics tuning forks, and has been trained in cross-cultural sound practitioner techniques from various wisdom traditions.

As an integrative consultant, Dr. Norris also has extensive knowledge of the Human Design System, which is a professional tool to help people map out their conscious and unconscious life patterns for self-awareness and reliable decision-making. Using a visual "bodygraph," every person can be seen as a mind-body bundle of living rhythms and shifting frequencies, where cognitive development becomes a process of refinement, and healing becomes a process of realignment. Through this MindBody Mapping approach to transformative development, he offers a sophisticated kind of integrative analysis for people's lives.

He is currently involved with independent research to develop support services that bring practical solutions to individuals and families dealing with personal issues that others have been unable to help them address. He is available for other creative and collaborative projects upon request.
